answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/09/2022 answer text <p>We are recruiting an additional 20,000 police officers in England and Wales by March 2023, the biggest recruitment drive in decades.</p><p>As part of the Police Officer Uplift Programme, the Home Office publishes a quarterly update on the number of officers in England and Wales, available here: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/police-officer-uplift-statistics" target="_blank">Police Officer uplift statistics - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)</a>. The latest release, published on 27 July 2022 for data up to June 2022, showed that we remain on track to deliver 20,000 additional officers.
