The Department for Education were responsible for data collection from local child
death reviews prior to the policy transferring to the Department of Health and Social
Care in July 2018. The child death review data collection is not a child level data
collection. It is an aggregate collection at local level, so these further breakdowns
cannot be provided. Whilst some information is collected at a local level on whether
deaths were related to gang violence, numbers are very small and would be suppressed.
It has not been possible to determine how many of the child death reviews in this
category led to a serious case review, nor to provide a reliable estimate of how many
were related to gang violence.
