answer text
The UK has a high degree of food security, as demonstrated by the 2010 UK Food Security Assessment. It is a comprehensive analysis of all aspects of food security, including household food security. We have just commenced a review of the assessment.

The UKs current production to supply ratio is 60% for all food and 76% for indigenous-type foods. This has remained steady over the last decade and is not low in the context of the past 150 years. A higher production to supply ratio does not necessarily improve food security, given the opportunity for domestic supply variability as a result of weather variability and disease risk.

The UK sources food from a diverse range of countries, in addition to a strong domestic production base. This will not change after leaving the EU. We want to grow more, sell more and export more British food. This will allow the food and drink sector to become even more resilient, competitive and profitable. It is our priority to enable an innovative, productive and competitive food supply chain from farm and sea to fork, which invests in people and skills.

We will continue to keep our defence exports under careful review to ensure they meet the rigorous standards of the Consolidated EU and National Arms Export Licensing Criteria.

The UN assesses Yemen to be the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Nearly 21 million people are in need of humanitarian aid. DFID’s support of £155 million for 2017-8 will feed 1.8 million people for at least a month, and provide 1.7 million people with nutrition support and an expected 1.2 million people with clean water and sanitation. We continue to strongly support the work of the UN’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, to end the conflict and bring about peace.

more like this

We also have only eight all-male boards remaining in the FTSE 350, and none in the FTSE 100. We are supporting the Hampton-Alexander Review to meet their target of women holding 33% of FTSE 100 senior leadership positions and 33% of FTSE 350 board positions. In addition, almost 3 million electricity and gas switches took place between January and July this year.

However, the Competition and Markets Authority has found that millions of domestic energy customers were paying around £1.4 billion annually more than they would if the market were functioning effectively. answer text
Information on the numbers of children recorded as missing from care homes during the year and the number who were recorded as missing at the end of March in a given year are shown in the table attached. These statistics are based on data collected for the first time in 2015, and should be treated with caution as local authorities’ recording of this information is improving over time. The figures are therefore not comparable between years and the information provided does not mean that the number of missing incidents is increasing in the volumes indicated below. Information for earlier years is not available.

Local authorities have improved their reporting of missing incidents through increased collaboration with partner organisations and carers, updated recording systems, and further training for carers to improve understanding of reporting processes.
more like this
