answer text

Fees were implemented in the Employment tribunals on 29 July 2013. The implementation project for fees was delivered on time and to budget, and around 70% of employment tribunal claims are now received on-line.

Fees are part of the Government’s broader package of Employment reforms. In particular, we want to encourage people to avoid long drawn out disputes which emotionally damage workers and financially damage businesses. From 6 May, anyone contemplating bringing a claim to the Employment tribunals must first consider ACAS conciliation, which is provided free of charge. The early results are encouraging.

The Government is committed to undertaking a review of Employment tribunal fees and we will be bringing forward our plans on the scope and timing of the review in due course.
more like this

answer text

It is not the Government’s intention to deter people from bringing legitimate claims to the Employment Tribunals, and we do not believe that is the case. The purpose of introducing fees was to transfer some of the cost of the tribunals from the taxpayer to those who use them, where they can afford to do so.

The Government is committed to undertaking a review of Employment Tribunal fees and we will be bringing forward our plans on the scope and timing of the review in due course.
more like this
