The Department has published guidance to industry and the health and care system to allow them to make informed plans and preparations. This is available online at GOV.UK.

The Department has since written to all suppliers of medicines to the United Kingdom on 26 March to advise them of the changes to EU exit dates and asked them to continue with preparations to protect patients in all possible outcomes.

The Government has been working closely with industry to ensure the supply of medicines, including vaccines, can continue uninterrupted in the event of a ‘no deal’ EU exit. This work has included building stockpiles, providing additional warehousing space and buying freight capacity on alternative ferry routes. There is cross-Government agreement that all medicines and medical products will be prioritised on these alternative routes to ensure that the flow of all these products may continue unimpeded.

Public Health England (PHE) manages significant stockpiles of vaccines for the national immunisation programme, as part of their business-as-usual planning. PHE is working closely with vaccine suppliers to ensure replenishment of these existing stockpiles continues in the event of supply disruption in the UK.

We are confident that, if everyone does what they need to do, the supply of medicines and medical products will be uninterrupted.

World Economic Forum estimate that automation will create 133 million new globally by 2022.

The Government recognises that demand for skills will continue to change, in part in response to automation. In order to equip the UK to capitalise on this opportunity, we have committed to improving the UK's system for training in digital skills, lifelong learning to ensure that working people have the support they need to navigate the challenge of automation to a higher-wage future. The Government are investing £406 million in maths, digital and technical education and have committed £100 million for the first phase of developing the National Retraining Scheme to support people vulnerable to technological change.

answer text
The Treasury is in frequent contact with firms and regulators regarding their contingency planning for EU exit. Firms that are using the EU “passport” to serve clients in the EEA recognise that further steps to legal certainty remain, and are taking the sensible step of carrying out contingency planning with respect to their operations in the EEA in order to be ready for a scenario in which the UK leaves the EU without a deal.

The Government is also doing the necessary work to make sure that we continue to have a stable and functioning financial services regime at the point of leaving the EU in any scenario and to minimise disruption for UK households and businesses. As the Bank of England’s Financial Policy Committee set out in its Financial Policy Summary in March 2019, the core of the UK financial system, including banks, dealers and insurance companies, is resilient to, and prepared for, the wide range of risks it could face, including a worst case disorderly Brexit.

That being said, we are committed to preserving our competitive position in financial services after the UK leaves the EU. An implementation period is the most effective means of ensuring a smooth and orderly exit from the EU. That is why we continue to believe leaving the EU with the deal negotiated, including an implementation period, is the best approach.

We are supporting companies in booking space on aircraft for products which require an immediate shipment due to short shelf-life or specific storage conditions. answer text
The shocking attack by a terrorist, who targeted Muslims in Christchurch while they were praying, underscores the need for us all to continue our work to tackle hatred head on. As the Prime Minister has said, there can be no place in our societies for the vile ideology that drives and incites hatred and fear. The events in New Zealand must strengthen our resolve on this issue.

On racism, the Government is committed, both domestically and internationally, to eliminating any form of racial discrimination. At home, our focus is on creating a fair society where all people, regardless of ethnic origin or background, are valued and able to participate fully and realise their own potential. Internationally, we believe that one of the most effective ways to tackle injustices and advocate for respect amongst different ethnic groups is to encourage countries to uphold their human rights obligations, including by working with international institutions, such as the United Nations. For example, the UK strongly supports the work of UN special procedure mandate holders, including the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, and we encourage other States to also support their work. The UK continues to engage on resolutions which consider racism, and work with member states at a ministerial and official level.
