answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/05/2024 answer text <p>Waiting list management information shows that there were 466 people waiting more than 12 months for hip replacement surgery, and 825 people waiting more than 12 months for knee replacement surgery, in acute trusts in the North East and Yorkshire as of 21 April 2024.</p><p>The National Health Service has been hit by the most disruptive industrial action in its history, and as of April 2024, approximately 1.4 million hospital appointments have been rescheduled since December 2022. We will shortly update legislation to enable more services and individuals to provide take-home supplies of naloxone without a prescription. This follows a public consultation in which the responses were overwhelmingly supportive of our proposals. The consultation outcome is available at:</p><p><a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/proposals-to-expand-access-to-take-home-naloxone-supplies" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/proposals-to-expand-access-to-take-home-naloxone-supplies</a></p><p>These changes mean naloxone can be given to a family member or friend of a person who is known to be using opiates, and to professionals working with people who use these drugs, to save lives in the event of an overdose.</p><p>Whilst the government has no current plans to place naloxone alongside public access defibrillators, we are committed to making naloxone as accessible as possible to those who need it. We are therefore considering the feasibility and potential benefits of a range of options, including making naloxone available in locked boxes in public places.</p><p>We have also launched a £5 million fund to tackle drug deaths across the United Kingdom, which is funding research projects that are considering other innovative ways to make naloxone more readily available. The Office for Health Improvement and Disparities receives intelligence via its networks on reported deaths from drug misuse, including those that involve nitazenes or fentanyls. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 30/04/2024 answer text <p>Tackling Class A drugs, including synthetic opioids, is a priority for the Government due to the harm caused to users, society and the economy.</p><p>We assess that the scale of trafficking of synthetic opioids into the UK remains low, including relative to countries like the USA and Canada where they have caused devastation. Sadly, nitazenes have been linked to more than 100 deaths in the UK during the last year, and we are taking action.</p><p>The cross-Government Synthetic Opioids Taskforce is working with partners, such as the NCA, the Department for Health and Social Care and the National Police Chiefs Council to deliver an evidence-based response to the risk posed by synthetic opioids, and to implement effective action to stem the demand and supply of these dangerous substances.</p><p>We regularly meet bilaterally with our partners in the USA and Canada to understand the tragic situation in North America and to learn from their responses. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/04/2024 answer text <p>The prohibited places measures were included under the National Security Act to safeguard the United Kingdom’s most sensitive sites from hostile activity. The accompanying police powers enable the police to protect these sites by requiring people to not engage in certain conduct and to move away from these places where they have a reasonable belief that doing so is necessary to protect the safety or interests of the United Kingdom.</p><p>Recognised journalists conducting activity on or near prohibited sites – for example, a journalist taking photos from outside a prohibited place – where they do not have a purpose prejudicial to the safety or interests of the UK and there is nothing to suggest taking photographs is not permitted, such as signage or other distinguishing marker, would not commit an offence.</p><p>The police have access to comprehensive guidance on how officers should use the powers in relation to prohibited places under the National Security Act 2023.
