<p>The Secretary of State is bound by law to complete an annual review of benefit
and pension rates to determine whether they have retained their value in relation
to the general level of prices or – for pensions - earnings. This statute requires
benefit and pension rates to be reviewed and set in each tax year. April 2020 is the
new financial year.</p><p> </p><p>The Secretary of State has completed her review
