We are currently analysing responses to our recent public consultation.</p><p>The Government’s actions to protect people from conversion therapy extend beyond legislating. We are procuring a support service for victims and those at risk via a helpline and website which will provide initial pastoral support, and signposting to services such as counselling and advice about emergency housing.</p><p>The Government has reluctantly taken the decision to cancel this summer’s Safe To Be Me conference. We have been proud to work alongside civil society partners, businesses and others to develop ambitious plans for the conference and appreciate the time and effort that all stakeholders have put into this.</p><p>We are disappointed that the conference will no longer be going ahead and remain committed to strengthening LGBT rights and freedoms. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/04/2022 answer text <p>The most recent data currently available about the number of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals who have undergone conversion therapy in the UK is from the National LGBT Survey, published in 2018. Evidence from that shows that 5% of the over 108,000 respondents said they had been offered conversion therapy, and a further 2% said they had received it. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/03/2022 answer text <p>Findings from the National LGBT Survey 2017, which had responses from over 108,000 LGBT people in the UK, found that men were generally slightly more likely to have undergone or been offered conversion therapy (8%) than women (6%). Black/African/Caribbean/black British (13%) and Asian/Asian British (14%) respondents, and respondents belonging to an ‘other’ ethnic group (15%), were more likely than white (7%) respondents to have undergone or been offered conversion therapy.</p><p>Our consultation on banning conversion therapy, which closed on 4 February, collected data on the sex and ethnicity of respondents, along with other demographics. This data will be considered as part of our analysis of consultation results. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/01/2022 answer text <p>The Government is committed to banning the practice of all coercive so-called ‘conversion therapy’ in this country, strengthening existing criminal law provisions and introducing an offence which protects under-18s and those who are unwillingly subjected to these abhorrent practices.</p><p>The Government is currently consulting on our proposals to legislate for a ban on conversion therapy. The question is how, not whether, we will ban conversion therapy. We are engaging with a wide range of relevant stakeholders, victims and professionals to ensure that the ban is effective in ending different forms of conversion therapy. The consultation runs until Friday 4 February and I would encourage anyone with an interest who has not yet done so to respond at: <a href="http://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/banning-conversion-therapy" target="_blank">www.gov.uk/government/consultations/banning-conversion-therapy</a>.</p><p>The consultation responses will be used to further refine the Government’s policy proposals on banning conversion therapy and inform the process of developing legislation.
