We are investing around £2.5bn,‎ with grants available for ultra-low emission vehicles, as well as funding to support charge point infrastructure at homes, workplaces, on residential streets and across the wider roads network. We are consulting on bringing forward the end to the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans from 2040 to 2035, or earlier if a faster transition appears feasible, as well as including hybrids for the first time. There are approximately 35,000 buses in the English bus fleet, meaning around 5.8% of the total fleet has been retrofitted between 2015 and September 2019 through the CBTF. A further 2,793 buses are scheduled to be retrofitted from the most recent round of funding. In 2018 – 19, Highways England anticipates spending £8.6 million of this fund.</p><p> </p><p>Investment plans for 2019 – 20, including support to the Government’s National Air Quality Plan, are still under development.
