Highways England will review the current performance of the A49 and other strategic road links between Wales and England, and their future requirements, through the development of its Route Strategies. In addition, in his speech on 30 June, the Prime Minister announced a review “of all future road, rail, air and cross-sea links between our all four parts of the UK”. Department for Transport (DfT) has currently achieved 1.3% of the total staff employed within the department for 2020/21. Given this target is a percentage of the total workforce, the percentage changes in line with workforce fluctuations over time therefore making it challenging to predict when a department will meet it. Due to the diverse nature of our work, the central department (DfTc) and our executive agencies (DfT Group) have developed localised strategies to allow us to continue towards the Government target. In September 2020 DfTc additionally transitioned to a cohort-based model of recruitment for apprenticeships; further strengthening our ambition for apprenticeship recruitment, and providing economies of scale to improve quality of provision and overall employee experience for the apprenticeship community.</p><p>Departments are committed to increasing the number of apprentices across the Civil Service and continue to work towards the 2.3% target. The impact of the current pandemic has slowed recruitment due to priority work and logistics. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/09/2020 answer text <p>Network Rail is undertaking a range of measures to improve the resilience to extremes of weather from active monitoring of rails at potential risk of buckling during hot weather to enable contingency plans to be enacted; to Emergency Weather Action Teams being stood up proactively in readiness to respond in advance of any extreme weather. Furthermore, in light of the tragic events at Stonehaven, NR were commissioned to produce a report in to improving the resilience of the network in response to extreme weather events. The interim report was published on 10 September and contained a range of short term and longer term actions which are being taken forward, including the creation of two task forces to look specifically the management of earthworks and the other to make best use of weather data. We will continue to meet with them throughout the trial period and when considering what steps to take after trials.</p><p> </p><p>The trials are to gather evidence on what impacts e-scooters have on the road. It is important that we gather evidence about the impacts on all road users including disabled people. We will be working with our evaluation contractor to do this, working with disabled persons’ groups where possible.
