answer text <p>Under the UK’s proposal for its future relationship with the EU, as set out in the Government’s White Paper ‘The future relationship between the United Kingdom and the European Union’, a future UK/US trade deal would be possible and remains a top priority. The UK would have freedom to negotiate in areas such as services, tariffs, and regulatory cooperation and conformity assessment. There is a complementarity between the UK and US economies and there would be substantial gains for both sides.</p><p> </p> more like this

We have invited views on the UK’s approach to future trade agreements, and engagement with stakeholders is ongoing.</p><p> </p><p>On 9<sup>th</sup> November 2017 the UK and US exchanged letters on mutually agreed protocols for the treatment of information exchanged in the course of the Trade and Investment Working Group. answer text <p>The creation of a Trade Remedies Authority is essential to protect UK industry against unfair and injurious trade practices and to ensure the UK is able to make a smooth exit from the EU.</p><p>In order to ensure continuity in relation to our trade around the world and avoid disruption for business and other stakeholders, the UK needs to prepare ahead of its exit from the EU for all possible outcomes of the negotiations, and ensure that we have made the necessary arrangements to operate a fully functioning trade policy, including our own Trade Remedies Authority.</p><p>In doing so, the Government will take account of the terms of any time-limited implementation period agreed between the UK and the EU.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The United States-UK bilateral trading relationship is an important one and vital to our economy. Total trade between the UK and US in 2016 totalled £167.6bn and both sides have committed to deepening our commercial relationship further.</p><p>My Ministerial colleagues and I have regular contact with the US Administration, business representatives and others, including through our diplomatic missions in the United States, to support and increase investment and trade flows. To this end, we have established a Trade and Investment Working group dedicated to strengthening the bilateral trade and investment relationship between the UK and US.</p> more like this

answer text <p>WTO rules provide that members can establish a trade remedies framework and undertake investigations into alleged dumping or subsidisation of imports. To operate an independent trade policy, we will need to put in place a trade remedies framework. As an important part of a rounded trade policy, after our exit from the EU, our trade remedies framework will protect domestic industry against unfair and injurious trade practices.</p><p>The US and UK are strong partners and allies. The US is the UK’s largest single trading partner and as such, our joint relationship is a crucial part of our economy and the US-UK economic relationship is crucially important.</p><p>The UK Government has maintained that Boeing’s complaint to the US Department of Commerce is unjustified, and we will continue to strongly defend our case.</p> more like this
