All agri-food products imported into the UK – including into Scotland – under existing or future free trade agreements will, as now, have to comply with the UK’s import requirements.</p><p>As the Government has stated in its manifesto, the UK will not compromise on high environmental protection, animal welfare and food standards in any trade negotiations.</p><p> </p> more like this

This includes the vast majority of the UK’s bilateral investment treaties and the Energy Charter Treaty.</p><p> </p><p>There has never been a successful claim brought against the United Kingdom nor has the threat of potential claims affected the Government’s legislative programme.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Environmental, social, governance and sustainability are considerations at the heart of British trade policy, and the Government will continue to ensure a high level of protection of the environment and workers’ rights by including ambitious labour and environmental provisions within new Trade Agreements.</p><p> </p><p>The UK’s Free Trade Agreements will facilitate trade in goods and services which support the deployment of low carbon, carbon capture, and energy efficient technology in Britain. These agreements will also underpin international cooperation in research and development, and reaffirm the UK’s sovereign right to regulate in pursuit of net zero by 2050.</p> more like this
