To ask His Majesty's Government, further to the United Nations General Assembly Statement on Lethal Autonomous Weapons systems on 21 October, what steps they are taking (1) to encourage cooperation between the other 69 signatories, and (2) to progress towards the elaboration of "the normative and operational framework regulating, where appropriate and necessary, autonomous weapons including through internationally agreed rules and limits".

<p>International discussions on Lethal Autonomous Weapon Systems (LAWS) fall under the auspices of the United Nations Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons (CCW). This is the appropriate forum to address the challenges associated with the use of autonomy in weapon systems. The UK will advocate for a Group of Government Experts (GGE) on LAWS mandate renewal at this year's CCW Annual Conference. The UK will continue to play a proactive role in that group, developing and supporting options, alongside the international community, to establish norms and positive obligations to ensure the safe and responsible use of autonomy.</p>
