The fund will be used to build new youth centres across the country, refurbish existing youth facilities, provide mobile facilities for harder to reach areas, and invest in the youth work profession and frontline services. This will help build up to 60 new youth centres and refurbish hundreds of existing youth facilities across the country, as well as providing over 100 mobile facilities for harder to reach areas. We believe they are best placed to know what is required in their communities.</p><p> </p><p>The government has announced that following the Spending Round councils will receive the biggest year-on-year real terms increase in funding for almost a decade. The proposed settlement will increase the core spending power of local authorities in real terms by an estimated 4.3% to £49.1 billion in 2020 to 2021, an increase of £2.9 billion.</p><p> </p><p>To support the provision of youth services for all young people, a public call for evidence was opened on the 3rd October, as part of the review of the guidance which sets out the statutory duty placed on local authorities to provide appropriate local youth services. The DCMS Youth Steering Group examined the strengths and weaknesses of the current statutory guidance document, and helped develop the questions for the call for evidence which was opened to the public on the 3rd of October.</p><p> </p><p>We are working with a number of youth organisations to make sure there are plenty of opportunities for young people to have a direct say about local services in their areas and how we can make sure the new guidance document is as helpful as possible.</p><p> </p><p>Young people are able to fill out a questionnaire and send their views to us, and can also attend a number of sessions that will be facilitated throughout the country over the next couple of months.</p> answering member constituency Loughborough answering member printed Nicky Morgan question first answered 21/10/2019 10:44:34 answering member 4027 label Biography information for Baroness Morgan of Cotes

Through these projects, the department is enabling effective youth participation in national policy making and pioneering approaches which can be adopted across government. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 14/03/2019 answer text <p>The Government recognises that the causes of youth crime are complex and are often tied to local factors. Local authorities allocate funding and deliver youth services in line with local need. The Government has made over £200bn available to local authorities to spend on local services over this Spending Review.</p><p> </p><p>The Government is committed to making sure young people have opportunities to develop their skills and benefit from youth services, which are an important partner in the strategy to tackle the root causes of serious violence. The Office for Civil Society (OCS), now based in DCMS, has spent over £667m on youth programmes and supporting youth service delivery between 2014/15 and 2017/18 - with £190m of that being spent in 2017/18.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, a new £200 million Youth Endowment Fund will be delivered over 10 years and will support interventions with children and young people at risk of involvement in crime and violence, will focus on those most at risk of youth violence including those displaying signs such as truancy, aggression and involvement in anti-social behaviour in order to steer them away from becoming serious offenders.</p><p> </p><p>My department will continue to work closely with the Home Office on the implementation of the Serious Violence Strategy.</p> answering member constituency Eastleigh answering member printed Mims Davies question first answered 14/03/2019 17:15:57 answering member 4513 label Biography information for Mims Davies

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/09/2018 answer text <p>The provision of open access youth services in Scotland is the responsibility of the Scottish Government.</p><p> </p><p>Government recognises the transformational impact that open access youth work can have especially for young people facing multiple barriers of disadvantage, that is why we have invested £40m in the Youth Investment Fund to boost open access youth services in 6 disadvantaged areas and expect over 300,000 young people to benefit.</p><p> </p><p>However Local Authorities in England have a statutory duty to provide sufficient open access services in their area. We believe they are best placed to know what is required in their communities.</p><p> </p><p>The Government announced in the Civil Society Strategy its commitment to reviewing the guidance which sets out the statutory duty placed on local authorities to provide appropriate local youth services.
