<p>As outlined in the <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/energy-white-paper-powering-our-net-zero-future/energy-white-paper-powering-our-net-zero-future-accessible-html-version#chapter-4-buildings"
target="_blank">Energy White Paper</a> (2020), emissions from homes and from commercial
and public sector buildings account for 19 per cent of total UK greenhouse gas emissions.
In order to meet the net zero target by 2050, we will need to rapidly decarbonise
the UK’s housing stock.</p><p> </p><p>The Green Homes Grant is designed to provide
short term economic stimulus in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst helping
us meet our net zero commitments. The funding allocated to the scheme represents a
significant and accelerated down payment on decarbonising buildings.</p><p> </p><p>Carbon
savings as a result of the scheme will depend heavily on the uptake of individual
measures by households. An independent evaluation of the processes and outcomes of
the Voucher Scheme will run until 2023, with interim publications released prior to
the final evaluation report.</p>
