The Department is not setting targets for numbers in receipt of Universal Credit at various points in time. The Government’s new approach will focus on tackling the root causes of poverty, in particular worklessness and educational attainment.</p><p> </p><p>The Government will introduce legislation to give effect to this approach and to remove the existing measures and targets in the Child Poverty Act. answer text <p /> <p>In December 2014 DWP published a suite of evaluation reports available at <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/benefit-cap-evaluation" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/benefit-cap-evaluation</a>. These found very little, if any, impact on homelessness as a direct result of the cap. The small number of capped households who have been evicted were noted by Local Authorities as having other reasons (beyond the cap) for rent arrears and also failing to engage with relevant services; they were considered intentionally homeless.</p> more like this

answer text <p /> <p>The principle behind the waiting days is that benefits are not designed to provide cover for brief spells of unemployment. We expect savings of around £150m per annum which will be used to fund measures to get people off benefit and into work and will particularly help those who are likely to be long- term benefit recipients.</p><p> </p><p>These include English Language Training, targeting those for whom language is a barrier to work, and additional voluntary support for lone parents with children aged 3-4.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We have been asking claimants in the Neston area to temporarily attend Ellesmere Port Jobcentre while we work to upgrade the service. This only affects a very small number of claimants, and all those affected have been reimbursed for any associated travel costs. We expect to resume the full service at Neston in the near future.</p><p> </p><p>No other jobcentre has been affected.</p> more like this
