answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/09/2015 answer text <p /> <p>The decision to temporarily halt a jobseeker’s benefit payment is always thoroughly considered and is not something we do lightly.</p><p> </p><p>It is a consequence of a jobseeker not meeting the conditions attached to receiving their benefits without good reason.</p><p> </p><p>Jobseekers are only ever asked to meet reasonable requirements, taking into account their circumstances and capability. All claimants are informed of the responsibilities they must fulfil in order to receive benefit, and the consequences of failing to comply. Our most important consideration is getting the correct decision as soon as possible and there are a number of steps in the decision making process to ensure this happens.</p><p> </p><p>Independent Labour Market Decision Makers fully consider each case taking into account all of the evidence presented, including any evidence of good reason put forward by a jobseeker, in accordance with current legislation or policy to make a fair, balanced and consistent decision.</p><p> </p><p>Additionally jobseekers can ask for the decision to be reconsidered and appeal to an independent tribunal.</p><p> </p><p>When decisions are overturned, it is often because the jobseeker brought forward new evidence which wasn’t made available to Decision Makers at the time the original decision was made.</p> answering member constituency Witham answering member printed Priti Patel question first answered 09/09/2015 15:26:39 answering member 4066 label Biography information for Priti Patel
