answer text <p>We do not routinely collect this information. The member may wish to ask EASS for it directly. However, it may be of interest for the Member to note that the EASS receives around 3,000 calls per month and has a stringent Key Performance Indicator that requires operators to answer 85% of all calls within 30 seconds. That target is routinely met. In a recent customer satisfaction survey nearly 90% of respondents were ‘Satisfied’ or higher with the service that they received.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government is committed to improving life choices and opportunities for disabled people in their private lives, in their communities and in employment. We want everyone, including people of restricted growth, to live their lives free from discrimination and harassment.</p><p>The Equality Act 2010 may protect people of restricted growth on the grounds of disability, depending on the particular circumstances. The 2010 Act defines disability as “a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on a person’s ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities”. An employer or a service provider is required to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that disabled people are not put at a substantial disadvantage compared to non-disabled people.</p><p>On 5 February 2024 we published the final Disability Action Plan together with the independent analysis of the consultation findings. The Disability Action Plan sets out 32 practical actions in 14 different areas which the government will take forward over the next 12 months, with disabled people, disabled people’s organisations, and other government departments and public service providers, to improve disabled people’s daily lives, as well as laying the foundations for longer term change.</p><p>Any disabled person who may have been personally discriminated against in employment or provision of services because of a disability may contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS), the government helpline established to provide free bespoke advice and in-depth support to individuals with discrimination concerns. The EASS can be contacted via their website at <a href="http://www.equalityadvisoryservice.com/" target="_blank">www.equalityadvisoryservice.com/</a>, or by telephone on 0808 8000082.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

answer text <p>In the final report to the Prime Minister on Covid-19 health disparities, published in December 2021, the Minister for Women and Equalities recommended that the National Institute for Health Research and the NHS Race and Health Observatory work to increase ethnic minority representation in research projects and clinical trials. This became action 24 in Inclusive Britain, our response to the Commission on Race and Ethnic disparities, published in March 2022.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>In April, we published a report to Parliament on the progress we have made in delivering this and the other 73 actions in Inclusive Britain. answer text <p>Under this government the gender pay gap has fallen significantly, with the gap having fallen from 19.8% to 14.3% over the last decade.</p><p> </p><p>In 2017, we introduced world-leading regulations requiring large employers to publish the differences in average salaries and bonuses for men and women every year. This has ensured that employers are aware of their gaps and are taking steps to close them.</p><p> </p><p>We know that reporting is just the first step, but do not believe that setting arbitrary targets or a timetable will help to drive the changes that we all want to see. The causes of the gender pay gap are complex, and the wider societal shifts required to close it will take time.</p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

When it comes to local government, political parties are responsible for their candidate selection and should be leading the way in improving the diversity of representation. I am aware that most national parties provide additional support to women looking to become candidates.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>Turning to business, almost 40% of UK FTSE 100 board positions are now held by women. To continue this progress, the Government supports the FTSE Women Leaders Review - which is independent, voluntary and business-led. The review uses data transparency to support talented, diverse leadership in the UK’s top companies. answer text <p>The Government is focussed on ensuring that all women who want to return to work following maternity leave are able to do so. Recent work in this area includes: extending rights to flexible working, enhancing protections from redundancy for new parents, and expanding free childcare entitlements.</p><p>We recognise that those who have taken extended time away from the workplace due to caring responsibilities can find it particularly difficult to return to work. Our STEM ReCharge pilot, delivered by expert organisations, Career Returners and STEM Returners, is currently supporting parents and carers back into STEM roles specifically.</p><p>The pilot is providing personalised employability support, sector-specific refresh training, and work opportunities to technology and engineering returners in the Midlands and the North of England. It is also providing support and training for STEM employers on supportive returner hiring and inclusive recruitment practices.</p><p>The findings of the pilot will help organisations to set up their own returners schemes, tailored to the specific needs of their workforce.</p><p> </p>

answer text <p>There is growing evidence to show that when salary information is not transparent, it has an impact on how people, particularly women and those from ethnic minorities, negotiate pay. This can ultimately result in lower starting salaries and smaller pay rises. In light of this, we have considered the merits of making this a requirement.</p><p> </p><p>However, we appreciate that some employers may find it challenging to be fully transparent about pay, and for many organisations, moving immediately to a system of full pay transparency would require a period of adjustment. We therefore do not believe that introducing a legal requirement to disclose this information is the right course of action.</p><p> </p><p>However, in order to encourage and assist employers in voluntarily adopting this, we are considering what further support employers may need. In addition, our pay transparency pilot will provide insights on the impact it can have.</p><p> </p> more like this
