The Faraday Institute is the independent research vehicle for the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund’s £246m Faraday Battery Challenge. Improving our understanding of the performance of lithium ion batteries over time in electrified vehicles is an important part of the Faraday Institute’s role. That is why of the Institute’s four ‘Fast Start’ projects, with up to £42 million in funding, two will look at improving our understanding of batteries: extending battery life and battery systems modelling.</p><p> </p><p>In order for a car to be eligible to receive the Government’s Plug-in Car Grant of up to £4,500 off the cost of a new vehicle, the manufacturer must provide a minimum five year warranty on the battery and electric drive train, and extra evidence of battery performance to show reasonable performance after three years of use.</p> answering member constituency Hereford and South Herefordshire answering member printed Jesse Norman question first answered 07/09/2018 11:06:40 answering member 3991 label Biography information for Jesse Norman

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/09/2018 answer text <p>The total cost of compensation payments was £6.6m in the 12 months up to 21 July, the latest date for which data is available.</p><p> </p><p>The disruption suffered by passengers on Thameslink and Great Northern services following the May timetable change was completely unacceptable. The railway industry is funding a special compensation scheme which will provide the most affected season, daily and carnet ticket holders with compensation for this disruption. The facility is one of several high temperature incinerators in the UK capable of incinerating large quantities of such waste. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 10/09/2018 answer text <p>The Secretary of State meets train operating companies regularly to discuss a range of issues.</p><p> </p><p>The majority of train operating companies on Department for Transport franchises currently offer the Delay Repay scheme which provides compensation for delays to journeys from 30 minutes, whatever the cause of the delay or cancellation. In addition, four train operating companies offer compensation for delays of 15 to 29 minutes. The Department has had a number of discussions with franchises about extending Delay Repay, including to offer compensation for delays from 15 minutes.</p><p> </p><p>The minority of franchises that have not yet introduced Delay Repay, including Arriva Trains Wales, set out their compensation arrangements in their Passenger’s Charter. These include discounts for holders of monthly and annual season tickets, if performance falls below a pre-determined threshold. For other passengers, compensation of no less than 50% of the ticket price is payable for delays of 60 minutes or more, and some of these train operators also offer compensation for delays of 30 to 59 minutes; this compensation is generally not payable for delays outside the control of the rail industry.</p><p> </p><p>The Arriva Trains Wales franchise is managed by the Welsh Government under the 2006 Welsh rail devolution arrangements. The next Wales and Borders franchise has been let by the Welsh Government under the new Welsh rail devolution arrangements. In particular, these include the Drones Industry Action Group, managed by the Department for Business, Energy &amp; Industrial Strategy, which meets quarterly and facilitates discussion on key issues between the Government and the UK drones industry.</p><p> </p><p>Recent changes to the Air Navigation Order were developed in response to the Government’s consultation on drones, which ran from December 2016 to March 2017.
