UNESCO’s Institute for Statistics (UIS) estimates that around 100 million girls
of lower and upper secondary school age were out-of-school globally in 2019. Whilst
the number of children living in emergencies has increased in the last decade, no
reliable estimates currently exist for the proportion of adolescent girls who are
out- of- school and affected by emergencies. DFID is supporting the UNESCO UIS and
other partners to improve global data sources related to SDG4. In 2015, the Global
Education Monitoring Report estimated that girls were two and a half times more likely
to be out of school in conflict-affected countries.

Supporting delivery of SDG

2030 is a top priority for the UK Government.
