answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/03/2020 answer text <p>We are gravely concerned about escalating regime and Russian military action and its humanitarian impact in North West Syria, where more than 948,000 people have been displaced since 1 December, of which 80% are women and children. Many of these people have been displaced multiple times and many more are at risk of imminent further displacement.</p><p>In response to increased needs, this financial year DFID has allocated £118 million to organisations delivering aid cross border primarily into North West Syria. This has helped to provide hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people with food, clean water, shelter, and healthcare including psychosocial support. The EU has contracted the Georg Eckert Institute, a specialist textbook analysis centre, to lead this review.</p><p>To ensure the review could begin immediately on the signing of the contract, the UK commissioned the Georg Eckert Institute to produce an inception report to establish its methodology in advance.</p><p>We understand from the EU that an interim report covering grade 8 – 10 books will be completed in Spring 2020, with the full report covering all the books due later in the year. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/02/2020 answer text <p>My Department recognises that older people experience a range of complex barriers and face multiple exclusions in developing countries across the globe.</p><p>Baroness Sugg has direct responsibility for ageing as part of her portfolio on inclusive societies.</p><p>Ageing is an important factor in DFID’s efforts to tackle extreme poverty, ensure inclusion and in our approach to ‘leave no-one behind’. This is reflected in our departmental strategy papers. Both the Disability Inclusion Strategy and the Strategic Vision for Gender Equality take a life-course approach, ensuring the delivery of transformative change for people all ages.</p><p>We are also supporting governments to make vital social protection systems more inclusive of older people. In Uganda, DFID continues to build on its partnership with the Government of Uganda to deliver a Senior Citizen Grant. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/03/2020 answer text <p>The UK has committed over £3.1 billion since 2012 in response to the Syria Crisis, our largest ever response to a single humanitarian crisis. Since 2012, across Syria and the region, we have provided over 28 million food rations, over 18 million medical consultations, and over 12 million vaccines. Our aid provides life-saving support to millions of Syrians, supporting refugees to remain in countries in the region, and enabling their host communities to accommodate them.</p><p>We do not calculate our spend by region, as our funding is allocated to partners operating from multiple crossing points. However, in financial year 2019/20, DFID has allocated £118 million to projects implemented by organisations delivering cross-border aid, primarily into North West Syria, including into Idlib. This includes funding for off-grid solar projects to reach the rural poor in Africa, providing technical assistance to improve African countries’ renewable energy policies, and investing in clean energy research and innovation such as the Faraday Battery Challenge and the Ayrton Fund. In particular, the programme focuses on addressing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer; and driving improvements in quality of care to reduce infection, injury or premature death. This will directly benefit women and poorer groups who are often particularly affected as a result of these health challenges. We continue to offer support to the Greek Government to alleviate the pressures on the islands and deliver sustainable improvements within the Greek migration system. This includes, until the end of March 2020, deployment of interpreters to the Reception and Identification Service on the Greek islands to support the processing of migrants and the identification of those most vulnerable. Our large-scale humanitarian programming ended in 2017 when the Greek Government took over the humanitarian response, with €1.3 billion of EU funds made available.
