answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/10/2019 answer text <p>Yemen remains the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with nearly 80% of the entire population, over 24 million people, requiring some form of humanitarian assistance. More than 20 million people in Yemen do not have reliable access to food and almost 10 million people face extreme food shortages.</p><p> </p><p>The UK is providing £200 million in response to this humanitarian crisis this financial year, bringing the total UK commitment to Yemen to £770 million since the conflict began in 2015. The Government continues to lobby all parties to facilitate rapid, safe and unhindered commercial and humanitarian access.</p><p>DFID is funding the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM) to speed up the clearance process for shipments of essential food and fuel to Yemen. We are also funding the World Food Programme and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to deliver food and treat severe malnutrition. This brings the UK’s total to £100 million in humanitarian assistance for 2016/17 which is provided to aid organisations in Yemen. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/07/2016 answer text <p>The United Nations’ 2016 Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan (YHRP), published in January 2016, reports that 21.2 million people in Yemen require some kind of humanitarian assistance to meet their basic needs or protect their fundamental rights, particularly for food, water and sanitation, healthcare, and support to internally displaced people. The YHRP is currently 26% funded with donations of £351 million. The UK has so far committed to spending £72 million in Yemen over 2016-17.
