<p>The Venezuelan health system has collapsed, formerly controlled preventable diseases
need to be controlled and this is leading to further outbreaks within neighbouring
countries.</p><p> </p><p>The UK has stepped up and has announced an emergency aid
package of £6.5 million to respond to the most severe health needs by providing immunisations
against deadly diseases, supporting emergency rooms and ensuring that people who are
fleeing their homes have access to crucial support, including through the provision
of mobile health clinics.</p><p> </p><p>Additionally, DFID has deployed two humanitarian
advisors to the region and funded seven additional roles within UN agencies to help
respond to the crisis. We provide significant core funding to the UN, Red Cross movement
and other international actors to alleviate the worsening humanitarian situation.
The UK’s core funding to the World Health Organisation (WHO) is helping to address
health needs in the region.</p><p> </p>
