UK support will include the construction of six Ebola treatment centres across the country, providing 700 beds to treat 8,800 patients over the next six months.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>In support of this effort, the UK has deployed 750 military personnel to Sierra Leone. This will support the deployment of RFA Argus and three Merlin helicopters which will provide crucial transport support to medical teams and aid experts. We have consistently raised this issue with the Government of National Accord, including during a recent visit by the International Development Secretary. The UK continues to provide humanitarian support to vulnerable refugees and migrants in Libya, including through over £5m of funding for UN agencies and non-governmental organisations. UK assistance to the Libyan Coastguard has been delivered through financial contributions and the provision of two military training teams to Operation Sophia’s (the EU Naval Operation set up in response to the Mediterranean Migration Crisis) Coastguard Training Task. This training aims to equip the Libyan Coastguard with the skills required to manage search and rescue and conduct counter smuggling/trafficking activities properly, whilst respecting human rights. The training also includes sessions on seamanship. The UK has already allocated £700 million to support internally displaced persons inside Syria and Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries, of which £2.3 million has been provided to Syrian refugees in Egypt in 2013/14. The UK Government has also been active in raising concerns on the treatment and detention of refugees and migrants within Egypt with the relevant authorities as well as providing diplomatic support to the work of UNHCR and other actors on these issues. The UK, through the tri-departmental Conflict Pool, is also supporting work to strengthen border management in the region.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>DFID is helping to address economic challenges in Egypt, promoting economic opportunities to reduce hardship. For example DFID is supporting job creation and economic reform through the £125m regional Arab Partnership programme. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/12/2018 answer text <p>DFID welcomes the audit of the Facility for Refugees in Turkey (FRIT) by the European Court of Auditors (ECA), published in November. The ECA’s report highlights the success of the FRIT in mobilising a swift response to the crisis and delivering projects that have provided helpful support to Syrian refugees in Turkey. DFID supports the ECA’s recommendations for further improvements to the FRIT, including improving access to primary data for two programmes (representing €382 million of FRIT expenditure). The ECA notes that the anonymised data provided by the Government of Turkey for these projects has made the European Commission’s monitoring and evaluation less effective.</p><p> </p><p>The UK remains an active member of the FRIT Steering Committee and maintains a regular dialogue – at all levels – with the Government of Turkey on the FRIT. We have used our position to influence the FRIT to be more sustainable and maintain focus on supporting the most vulnerable, as well as challenging the European Commission to improve its monitoring and evaluation framework. These centres are the responsibility of the Libyan authorities. Libya is a very challenging environment to operate in, which makes it difficult to accurately assess the number of migrants and refugees currently detained. The International Organisation for Migration estimate that 4,800 migrants are held in official detention centres, often subject to poor conditions and overcrowding, but this figure does not account for those held elsewhere by traffickers, militias or other armed groups. The Government has been clear that more needs to be done to break the business model of people smugglers and is taking steps to ensure that those responsible for trafficking are held to account. This includes supporting efforts to sanction people smugglers and build the capacity of Libyan law enforcement agencies. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/11/2014 answer text <p>In the latest Strategic Response Plan for Iraq, the UN estimates that 1.26 million internally displaced people are in need of assistance in order to be prepared for winter, with 800,000 people in need of immediate shelter.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK government has responded by funding £23 million of humanitarian assistance in Iraq. £17.5 million of the funding has gone to the UN, NGOs and the International Committee for the Red Cross for projects which include winterisation assistance such as shelter kits for people living in collective shelters and unfinished buildings. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/11/2014 answer text <p>We assist the residents of Shatila and eleven other refugee camps in Lebanon by providing funding to international Non-Governmental Organisations and to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), the coordination agency for humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and the region. We have committed £133.7 million for humanitarian activities in Lebanon to date and are the third largest bilateral donor to UNRWA.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>UK funding provides cash to help urban refugees rent private sector accommodation. This moderates the numbers of refugees in camps and eases the pressures of overcrowding. To improve safety and security in camps we are supporting projects to address the causes of security challenges and respond to them when they arise. Medical care for camp populations is mostly provided through UNWRA. UNRWA spends 18% of its budget on healthcare provision and runs 27 health clinics for the refugee population offering services both in camps and in the urban environment. Our assistance to refugees in Lebanon forms part of wider UK action in the region. Since the onset of the Syria crisis the UK has committed £700 million for humanitarian activities in Syria and neighbouring states.
