answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/11/2018 answer text <p>hile we acknowledge that working in fragile and conflict-affected countries carries risks, DFID has robust and extensive controls in place to ensure that tax payers’ funds are used appropriately and effectively; that UK aid reaches those who need it and that it does not benefit extremist groups, such as Ha’yat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS). DFID does not provide funding unless our NGO and UN partners can assure us that it will not benefit extremist groups, and we will withdraw support if there is reason to believe UK tax payer’s money may be at risk. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 03/07/2018 answer text <p>a) We are supporting 11 hospitals in Gaza through £1.5 million to the International Committee of the Red Cross. Our longstanding support to UNRWA provides primary healthcare to 1.3 million people in Gaza. The UK regularly raises the issuance of medical permits, which is vital for healthcare for Gazans, with the Israeli authorities.</p><p>b) The UK will work with Israel, the Palestinian Authority, other donors and the Office of the Quartet to provide a sustainable electricity supply to Gaza. This requires greater domestic electricity capacity and energy imports from Israel and Egypt as well as institutional reform.</p><p>c) UK funding to UNICEF is helping 2 million Gazans access clean safe water and stopping the spread of disease by providing over 1000 roof water tanks and disinfecting 280 wells, 38 desalination plants and 40 reservoirs.</p><p>d) The UK has already provided support to water infrastructure and will support other infrastructure investments through our new economic development programme. I most recently raised our concerns about the situation in Gaza with the office for the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) in May. We hold regular discussions with the Palestinian Ministry of Health on their plans to respond to the immediate needs in the health sector in Gaza.</p><p> </p><p>c) DFID enables <strong>reconstruction</strong> efforts in Gaza through our support to the Materials Monitoring Unit of the Gaza <strong>Reconstruction</strong> Mechanism, which monitors the import, storage, supply and use of construction materials. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/03/2015 answer text <p>a) The UK is supporting political and economic reform in Jordan through the Arab Partnership, including support to committees in parliament to improve the quality of legislation and support improvements to parliamentary procedures. We are also working with different groups across Jordanian governorates to build concepts of good governance, including forming counsels from the local communities that work to monitor the performance of local governance institutions against its roles and responsibilities.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>b) The UK is helping the Palestinian Authority (PA) to build strong institutions and deliver essential services. Our support is governed by a Memorandum of Understanding which reaffirms the PA’s commitment to non-violence and a negotiated two-state solution, as well as its respect for human rights and delivering clean and accountable governance in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. We are also helping deliver institutional reform and improve public financial management, and working with civil society to help citizens become more effective at holding the PA to account.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>c) DFID does not does not have any anti-corruption or good governance programmes in Turkey.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>d) The UK promotes good governance and anti-corruption in Nigeria through a range of technical assistance programmes which support democratisation, better use of Nigerian resources, improved transparency in the oil sector, increased capacity of civil society and more robust enforcement of anti-corruption legislation. No UK aid money goes directly to the Government of Nigeria to ward against corruption.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>e) Since the revolution, UK funded programmes in Tunisia have supported the development and application of a code of conduct for public servants, have strengthened risk management, audit practices and the development of a whistle blowing framework, and have enhanced transparent public procurement. The UK has also supported the development of an anti-corruption strategy and strengthened the role of the National Anti-Corruption Agency.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>f) DFID and FCO have developed a cross-governmental strategy to support effective, prioritised and coordinated action at the international and multilateral level to strengthen governance in Mali and the wider Sahel region.
