	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/03/2020 answer text <p>The Department recognises that older people experience a range of complex barriers and face multiple exclusions in developing countries across the globe.</p><p>Baroness Sugg has direct responsibility for ageing as part of her portfolio on inclusive societies.</p><p>Ageing is an important factor in DFID’s efforts to tackle extreme poverty, ensure inclusion and in our approach to ‘leave no-one behind’. This is reflected in our departmental strategy papers. Both the Disability Inclusion Strategy and the Strategic Vision for Gender Equality take a life-course approach, ensuring the delivery of transformative change for people all ages.</p><p>We are also supporting governments to make vital social protection systems more inclusive of older people. In Uganda, DFID continues to build on its partnership with the Government of Uganda to deliver a Senior Citizen Grant. In the financial year 2019/2020, 2,490 veterans and 3,229 widows of veterans were supported through the Commonwealth Veterans Programme. Disbursements are currently underway for this financial year (April 2020 to March 2021). To date, 1,815 veterans and 1,960 widows of veterans have received support. DFID receives a small non-ODA allocation from HMT for the known areas of spend we have that fall outside of the scope of ODA.</p><p>DFID collates and checks UK ODA spend data in reporting to the OECD DAC and in our National Statistics publication ‘Statistics on International Development’. We are using UK aid to its full effect to counter the health, humanitarian, and economic risks and impact of this pandemic in the developing world. We are working hard to ensure that our help reaches those most in need through close collaboration with our partners. The UK has, to date, pledged £744 million of UK aid to help end this pandemic as quickly as possible.</p><p>Our funding is supporting a range of initiatives and partners to ensure that it can reach those who need it the most. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/03/2020 answer text <p>The UK is a long standing supporter of efforts to eradicate polio, providing consistent support to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) since 1995. We are the second largest state donor to this programme and have provided a total of £1.3 billion to date. In September 2019 Ministers also approved a new £400 million investment for the 2020 – 2023 period, bringing our total investment to £1.7 billion.</p><p>Transmission of wild poliovirus is now only present in two countries compared to 124 when GPEI was formed in 1988, and cases of paralysis have reduced in that time from 350,000 a year to 175 last year.</p><p>In the 2018-2019 period, the UK provided a total of £50 million to programmes to specifically tackle polio; £4 million to Gavi the Vaccine Alliance for the purchase of polio vaccines, and £46 million to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which contributed to the vaccination of over 400 million children.</p><p>The Global Polio Eradication Initiative is a public-private partnership with six core partners, including the World Health Organisation and Rotary International. The UK is currently the second largest investor in the Global Fund, pledging £1.4 billion to the 6<sup>th</sup> Replenishment (2020 – 2022) and £1.2 billion for the 5<sup>th</sup> Replenishment (2017-2019).</p><p>As our investment in the Global Fund has increased our bilateral programmes have decreased. Bilateral spending on TB control in 2018, which we publish by calendar year, was £1,862,966.</p><p>We also fund research on TB, including to develop more effective diagnostics and treatment, programmes to support countries to strengthen their health systems. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/02/2020 answer text <p>Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, provides subsidised vaccines and health and immunisation systems support to 68 of the world’s poorest countries. Immunisation is one of the most cost-effective interventions in health and a key driver of progress towards reducing child mortality.</p><p>The UK is proud to be one Gavi’s strongest supporters. We provide Gavi with multi-year commitments, which cover five-year periods. This enables Gavi to provide countries with predictable and sustainable financing, which is essential to launching long-term, lasting routine immunisation programmes in national health systems.</p><p>The UK committed £1.32 billion to Gavi between 2011-2015. The UK’s current £1.44 billion of support to Gavi between 2016-2020 has saved 1.4 million lives from vaccine-preventable diseases in 68 of the world’s poorest countries.
