answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/09/2020 answer text <p>Tackling digital crime is a cross government agenda in which the Home Office and its agencies has a key role to play.</p><p>The National Digital Policing Strategy 2020-2030: Digital, Data and Technology Strategy was partly developed in response to the pace of digital change and was launched at the Police ICT Summit 2020. The strategy was developed by the Police ICT Company and the National Police Technology Council in collaboration with the Home Office.</p><p>Under this strategy, the Home Office is committed to ensuring new capabilities are available to the police to tackle crime in an evolving digital landscape, to cooperate more efficiently and to support their contributions to the effectiveness and efficiency of the CJS. We are clear that technology will make it easier for the public to report a crime and enable the police to make better use of digital evidence as part of their investigations.</p><p>The Strategic Change and Investment Board (SCIB), is chaired by the Policing Minister and forms part of the sub-governance of the National Policing Board (NPB). The SCIB oversees investment across the policing system to meet Government priorities. We continue to work closely with the sector to monitor any additional pressures.</p><p> </p><p>We recently launched a gov.uk page on coronavirus-related fraud and cybercrime. For example, the Government in September 2019 announced an additional £30m funding for this financial year to ensure offenders are no longer able to hide in the shadows on the dark web and prey on our society’s most vulnerable while they are at home.</p><p> </p><p>Police forces continue to assess threats, the impact of COVID-19, and deploy resources accordingly including on online crimes. Therefore, whilst there is no robust estimate of the total cost of cyber crime to the UK economy it is likely to be billions.</p><p>The Economic and Social Costs of Crime report (Home Office, 2018) estimated a cost of £1.1bn from computer misuse incidents against individuals in the financial year 2015/16. The Cyber Aware and Take Five campaigns are designed to help encourage the public and small businesses to protect themselves from cyber crime and fraud, providing advice on specific protective and actionable behaviours to increase resilience.</p><p>Cyber Aware and Take Five in particular have been developed jointly by industry and Government experts including the National Cyber Security Centre and the Joint Fraud Taskforce and have established consensus around a single set of authoritative advice to protect individuals from cyber criminals and fraudsters. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/02/2018 answer text <p>How police record cyber crime on their systems is an operational matter for individual police forces.</p><p>Experimental statistics on offences recorded by the police in England and Wales which were flagged as “online crime” are published quarterly by the Office for National Statistics in the statistical bulletin Crime in England and Wales. The latest statistics, covering year to September 2017 can be found here:</p><p><a href="https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/datasets/crimeinenglandandwalesexperimentaltables" target="_blank">https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/crimeandjustice/datasets/crimeinenglandandwalesexperimentaltables</a></p><p>Work is ongoing with forces to improve the quality of the data submitted in this collection. There are some large variations in the proportion of offences flagged by each force depending on crime type and there is anecdotal evidence to suggest that the flag is currently underused. Therefore, going forward, with improved identification of online related offences, the proportion of all offences flagged as being online related is likely to increase.</p><p>Furthermore, offences of cybercrime may be recorded by Action Fraud, the UK’s national fraud and cybercrime reporting centre. Cyber crime offences (also known as offences committed under the Computer Misuse Act) are recorded in accordance with Home Office counting rules under the relevant National Fraud Intelligence Bureau code.
