	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 29/04/2019 answer text <p>The Government recognises the valuable contribution that international workers make to our important NHS and to the social care sector and we are determined to ensure that the future immigration system is efficient and able to respond to needs.</p><p><br>In December 2018, we set out our proposals for the future immigration system in “the UK’s future Skills-based Immigration System” White Paper. The White Paper proposals include a new route for skilled workers which will be open to anyone at RQF level 3 (A-Level and equivalent) and above, irrespective of where they are applying from. This route will not be capped and employers will not be required to carry out a Resident Labour Market Test for higher skilled roles.</p><p><br>The White Paper also includes, as a transitional measure, a route for temporary workers which will be open to anyone from qualifying countries, at any skill level, for up to 12 months. We do not intend to impose a cap on the number of people wishing to use this route.</p><p><br>The White Paper is the start of a new national conversation and we have launched a year-long engagement programme over 2019 to take the views of a range of stakeholders across the UK, including the health and social care sector. Employers are responsible for preventing illegal working under the Immigration Asylum and Nationality Act 2006 by conducting right to work checks specified in Home Office regulations. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 25/02/2019 answer text <p>Approximately 40 individuals have been prosecuted on their return from Syria, either because of offences committed overseas or for activity linked to their involvement in conflict overseas. The offences cover TACT offences and non-TACT offences, but are only included if they were the result of investigations into terrorist-related activity. Not all of the convictions relate to activity in Syria or even TACT offences. All 40 were found guilty of the offences they were charged with.</p><p>We do not comment on specific operational matters in order to protect our national security so as not to reveal operational tactics. It would therefore be inappropriate to break down these figures further or to release information about the specific cases involved.</p><p>Please note that the safety and security of our country, our people and our communities remains the Government’s number one priority.</p><p>Around 900 people of national security concern travelled from the UK to engage in the conflict in Syria and Iraq. Of these, approximately 20% have been killed while overseas, and around 40% have returned to the UK.</p><p>The majority of those who have returned, did so in the earlier stages of the conflict, and were investigated on their return. These figures give an indicative picture only and should be treated with caution – they have been designated as ‘Experimental Statistics’, to acknowledge further development will take place in the future.
