This included launching a £22m Early Intervention Youth Fund which is already supporting 29 projects in England and Wales, a national knife crime media campaign - #knife free; a new National County Lines Co-ordination Centre to tackle this violent and exploitative criminal ac-tivity; and the Offensive Weapons Bill to strengthen legislation on firearms, knives and corrosive substances.</p><p>On 2 October 2018 the Home Secretary announced further important measures including a consultation on new legal duty to support a multi-agency approach to preventing and tackling serious violence, a new long term £200 million Youth Endowment Fund, and an Independent Review of Drug Misuse.</p><p>Most recently, on 13 March the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced that an additional £100 million funding for serious violence in 2019/20 to help the police’s immediate response to the rise in serious knife crime, and also to support investment in Violence Reduction Units, bringing together a range of agencies including health, education, social services and others, to develop a multi-agency approach in preventing serious violence altogether. It is im-portant that we recognise that greater law enforcement on its own will not reduce serious violence and that we must continue to focus on prevention.</p><p>Specifically, in relation to Yorkshire and the Humber, we have awarded £2.7m from the Early Intervention Youth Fund to support different projects. We have also provided £127,521 through the anti-knife crime Community Fund in 2018/19 to seven local projects. It is important that we recognise that greater law enforcement on its own will not reduce serious violence and that we must continue to focus on prevention.</p><p>On 13 March the Chancellor of the Exchequer also announced that an additional £100 million funding for serious violence in 2019/20 to help the police’s immediate response to the rise in serious knife crime, and also to support investment in Violence Reduction Units, bringing together a range of agencies including health, education, social services and others, to develop a multi-agency approach in preventing serious violence altogether.</p><p>Most recently, on 1 April the Prime Minister hosted the Serious Youth Violence Summit to continue to drive cross-government action to tackle serious violence. The strategy is clear that there are a range of factors driving increases in serious violence most notably changes in the drugs market. The focus of the strategy is on early intervention and prevention, together with a robust law enforcement response. This consultation launched on 1 April 2019. <br>On 13 March the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced further funding of £100 million in 2019/20 to help tackle the rise in serious violence. Two thirds of the funding will enable priority forces to immediately begin planning to put in place the additional capacity they need and the other third of the funding will be invested in Violence Reduction Units, bringing together a range of agencies to develop a multi-agency approach in preventing serious violence altogether. The initial allocation to forces of £51 million was announced on 17 April.</p><p>In addition to this funding, in 2019/20, total police funding will increase by around £970m including council tax precept, additional pensions funding and national investment, the most substantial investment in policing since 2010. The settlement for local government for 2019/20 will also mean that core spending power increases from £45.1bn in 2018/19 to £46.6bn in 2019/20. This includes:</p><ul><li>establishing the National County Lines Co-ordination Centre;</li><li>delivering in Offensive Weapons Act;</li><li>investing £220 million in early intervention and prevention initiatives to support children and young people at risk of exploitation and involvement in serious violence, through the £22 million Early Intervention Youth Fund and £200 million Youth Endowment Fund; and,</li><li>appointing Dame Carol Black to lead a major review that is looking into the ways in which drugs are fuelling serious violence.</li></ul><p>The work to tackle serious violence is ongoing and evolves according to the knowledge and understanding of our partners and the changing methodologies of criminals.</p><p>The Government is also recruiting 20,000 extra police officers over the next three years, ensuring violent criminals face swift and robust sentencing and expanding stop and search powers. As announced in the Queen’s Speech we are also introducing the Serious Violence Bill, which will put a duty on police, councils and health authorities to prevent and reduce serious violence. We have announced an additional £25 million of targeted investment to increase our efforts to tackle county lines, including expanding the National County Lines Co-ordination Centre. And through the Serious Violence Fund we have provided £100million in 2019/20 to the 18 police force areas worst affected by serious violence. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/05/2018 answer text <p>However, the scope of the Serious Violence Strategy is concerned with specific types of crime such as homicide, knife crime, and gun crime and areas of criminality where serious violence or its threat is inherent, such as in gangs and county lines drug dealing. It also includes emerging crime threats faced in some areas of the country such as the use of corrosive substances as a weapon.</p><p>Serious violence also extends to other forms of serious assault. We know that a significant proportion of violence is linked to either domestic abuse or alcohol, but these two important elements are not driving the increases we are seeing in violent crime. The strategy also does not address specifically sexual abuse, modern slavery or violence against women and girls.
