Once the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) publishes clinical guidance, health professionals and the organisations that employ them are expected to take it into account when deciding what treatments are suitable for each patient.NICE updated referral guidelines for suspected cancer published in June 2015 with general practitioners urged to think of cancer sooner and lower the referral threshold for tests.
