As we made clear at the UN Security Council remote meeting on the Middle East Peace Process on 20 May, we are concerned by reports that the new Israeli Government coalition has reached an agreement which may pave the way for annexation of parts of the West Bank. The UK position is clear: any unilateral moves towards annexation of parts of the West Bank by Israel would be damaging to efforts to restart peace negotiations and contrary to international law. The UK is committed to making progress towards a two-state solution. But in line with Security Council Resolution 242 and subsequent Council resolutions, we regard East Jerusalem as under Israeli military occupation. In line with international law, and relevant Security Council resolutions, notably Resolutions 242 and 497, we do not recognise Israel's sovereignty over the territories occupied by Israel since June 1967, including the Golan Heights, and we do not consider them part of the territory of the State of Israel. Annexation of territory by force is prohibited under international law. In that context, the UK, and partners have raised concerns with the Government about its policy on non-governmental organisations (NGOs) contained in the new Development Cooperation Framework (DCF). I recently met with Foreign Minister Dr. Alie Kabba and emphasised the importance of giving NGOs the space to operate and contribute to Sierra Leone's development. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/04/2018 answer text <p>Following the victory of President Maada Bio in the Presidential run-off in Sierra Leone on 4 April, there were sporadic outbreaks of violence, but the country remained largely calm. The President issued a statement condemning the violence and has initiated a cross-party committee to address incidents of political violence and intimidation across the country.</p><p>The UK worked closely with Sierra Leone on election preparations and has done considerable work on policing and security sector reform to support stability in the country. We were pleased to see the Sierra Leone Police and security services respond well to the challenges of the election period.
