answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/07/2015 answer text <p>National service is compulsory in Eritrea and many conscripts serve indefinitely. The national service system was one of the reasons the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) listed Eritrea as a “Country of Concern” in its annual Human Rights Report (2014). The report set out that civilian national service has often included work for government and state-owned companies on low salaries, exposing the Government of Eritrea to the allegation of using forced labour. We have been clear to the Government of Eritrea that it must amend or abolish its national service system. Eritrean government representatives have assured UK officials that the term of service will be strictly limited to 18 months for all new recruits starting from March 2015. We will continue to monitor the situation closely. FCO officials recently met with representatives of the Canadian mining company, Nevsun Mining, who operate the largest mine in Eritrea. This commitment was demonstrated by the launch in December 2014 of the UK Implementation Plan to accompany our National Action Plan (NAP) on WPS and my appointment in June by the Prime Minister, my right hon. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron), as his Special Representative on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict. The UK is also a strong advocate internationally for the protection of civilians in conflict, including ensuring that protection of civilians is integrated across both humanitarian and development work. All these agendas span multiple strands of the Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR). We are working closely with EU partners on preparation for the meeting, and have ensured that UK policy is reflected in the EU contribution on proposals to strengthen the protection of the rights of older people. These will vary depending on source, methodology and the point in time to which the figures relate. The figure which the Government believes is most accurate is from the World Bank’s “Estimates of Migrant Stocks in 2010” as updated by the UN Department for Social and Economic Affairs in 2013: http://www.un.org/en/development/desa/population/migration/data/estimates2/estimatesorigin.shtml</p><p>This report estimates that there were approximately 5.2 million British born migrants living overseas, of which approximately 1.3 million were in other EU countries. The same report estimated that there were 2.7 million EU born migrants resident in the UK. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/11/2014 answer text <p>Paragraph 1224 of the Commission of Inquiry’s report (A/HRC/25/CRP.1) recommends that states and others should provide more support for the work of civil society organisations to improve the human rights situation in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), including efforts to document violations and to broadcast accessible information into each country. In paragraph 39 of his June 2014 report (A/HRC/26/43) the Special Rapporteur notes that the Human Rights Council called on all parties concerned, including United Nations bodies, to consider implementation of the recommendations made by the Commission of Inquiry. The Rapporteur also says that he interprets “all parties concerned” as all-encompassing.</p><p>The UK does not disagree with this interpretation, but it is clear that different parties will have different roles with regard to individual recommendations.</p><p>The UK has previously funded projects related to the documentation of violations that have been implemented by civil society organisations based in South Korea and we remain open to funding similar projects in the future. We have also worked with international non-governmental organisations and the DPRK’s Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled (KFPD) for example to improve the treatment of disabled people in the DPRK. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/10/2014 answer text <p>In the 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review, the Government committed itself to reduce the number of operationally available nuclear warheads to no more than 120 and to reduce our overall nuclear weapon stockpile to no more than 180 by the mid 2020s. The Government also gave an assurance that the UK will not use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against non-Nuclear Weapons States Parties to the NPT and who are not in material breach of their obligations under the NPT. We have continued to work to build the confidence between the Nuclear Weapons States which is necessary for further reductions, for example through the UK-initiated P5 process. We continue to push for entry into force of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) and for negotiations on a Fissile Material Cut Off Treaty to start in the Conference on Disarmament. We have made clear that our goal is a world without nuclear weapons.
