answer text
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office funds a Prosperity Officer at our Embassy in Kathmandu, who is responsible for commercial and economic diplomacy work. The officer provides support to UK companies looking for opportunities in the Nepali market and is also responsible for working closely with the Department for International Development on economic policy and business environment issues. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office lobbies the Nepal government on various trade policy issues, including simplifying approvals for foreign direct investment and agreeing a double taxation avoidance agreement (DTA), to encourage more bilateral trade and investment. On the back of this work, the Government of Nepal has recently agreed to commence negotiations for a UK-Nepal DTA.

On promoting trade and investment, the Embassy organised trade missions in 2014 and 2016, commissioned scoping studies in hydropower and education sectors which cost approximately £50,000 through the Global Britain Fund and supported the Lord Mayor's visit in early 2017.

answer text
Officials from the Department for International Development (DFID) hold regular discussions with EU and US aid administrations regarding assisting Yezidi communities. DFID and Foreign and Commonwealth Office representatives regularly highlight the needs of minorities at senior levels within the Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government. We recently discussed the issue with the Iraqi General Secretary of the Council of Ministers, who has created a team that is working with UN Development Programme on this issue. On 2 August the UK's Ambassador to Iraq attended a commemoration of the fourth anniversary of Daesh atrocities against Yezidis in Sinjar, where he reiterated the importance of justice, respect and human rights.
more like this

answer text
At the EU-Western Balkans Summit, on 17 May, the Prime Minister made clear that strengthening the rule of law and tackling organised crime and corruption are central to our engagement on the Western Balkans. We have also increased our technical assistance to address these challenges. In October 2017, the Government launched the UK-Western Balkans Security Discourse to strengthen our security engagement with the region. The Western Balkans Summit in London will have an increased focus on security with the aim of fostering practical security co-operation between the six Western Balkans countries, as well as action to tackle corruption. As part of the Summit, the Home Secretary will host a meeting of Interior Ministers – the first time that this will be held under the “Berlin Process”.
more like this
