<p>Monitoring the security situation in the Western Sahara is one of the key responsibilities of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO). The Government maintains a close dialogue with MINURSO and with the UN's Department of Peacekeeping Operations in New York. We support the UN Secretary General's calls on both parties to the Western Sahara dispute to exercise restraint and take steps to avoid escalating tensions.</p>
