All countries, including Israel, have a legitimate right to self-defence, and the right to defend their citizens from attack. In doing so, it is vital that all actions are proportionate, in line with International Humanitarian Law, and are calibrated to avoid civilian casualties. Defence and security exports support states’ legitimate right to self-defence, security and law and order. Friend, the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond) issued a press release on 23 July stating that:</p><p>&quot;Today's UN Human Rights Council resolution will not help achieve a lasting ceasefire. When they have been unable to visit, staff have had contact by phone or in writing. We will continue to provide consular support, taking into account the local conditions. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/09/2014 answer text <p>It was reported in May 2014 that a Bahai’i cemetery in Shiraz, where over 950 Baha’is are buried, was destroyed – there have been a number of similar such incidents in recent years. As well as the threat of imprisonment, Baha’is continue to face ongoing harassment and discrimination.</p><p>The UK works closely with the UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, Dr Ahmed Shaheed, who’s most recent report of March 2014 addressed the plight of Baha’is and other religious minorities in the country. The UK’s non-resident Chargé d’Affaires to Iran discussed freedom of religion and other Human Rights issues with the Iranian authorities during his visit to Iran in March 2014. My hon. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 01/09/2014 answer text <p>The Prime Minister has been clear that Israel has a right to self-defence but that everything must be done to minimise civilian casualties.</p><p>An assessment of whether Israeli actions in Gaza comply with international law and its obligations under the Geneva Conventions requires an investigation on the ground. To that end the United Nations Human Rights Council has set up a Commission of Inquiry to investigate purported violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including the Gaza Strip since the conflict began on 13 June. The attack on Damboa further demonstrates the need for the United Kingdom and others to support Nigeria as it confronts Boko Haram and other terrorist groups.
