answer text <p>Foreign Minister Ulianovschi is scheduled to visit the UK next month. I plan to meet with him as part of the visit programme. The Prime Minister and the Foreign Secretary did likewise during a visit of the Crown Prince to the UK in March. answer text <p>In recent years the UK has gradually re-established its relations with Iran, reopening the British Embassy in Tehran in 2015 and upgrading to Ambassador-level representation in 2016. Since then we there have been developments in a variety of areas ranging from establishing a UK visa service in Tehran to supporting UK-Iranian trade links. Ministers have also established a regular dialogue which supports engagement on a wide range of challenging issues, including nuclear and regional matters. We committed to upholding the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action as long as Iran continues to fulfil its commitments under it.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK continues to put pressure on all sides to engage constructively with the next phase of the High Level Revitalisation Forum of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), scheduled for May.</p><p>We strongly condemn ongoing violations of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement, signed in December, by all parties including the Government. We urge IGAD to take immediate action to ensure that those who undermine the peace process, face consequences for their actions, to leave the parties in no doubt about the region's commitment to peace.</p><p>We played a leading role in securing EU sanctions in February to discourage obstruction of the process and to incentivise positive engagement, and continue to call for a UN arms embargo on South Sudan.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Foreign Secretary raised his concerns about the treatment of the Rohingya of Rakhine State when he met State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi on 11 February. He pressed her Government to take action in Rakhine to ensure Rohingya refugees would feel safe to return, and to investigate allegations of human rights violations. The Minister for Asia and the Pacific reiterated these messages in his meeting with the Burmese Ambassador on 6 March.</p><p>Following his visit to Kachin State in January 2018, the British Ambassador raised with the Burmese Defence Minister our concerns about renewed fighting and military restrictions on the delivery of humanitarian relief to ethnic Kachin communities. The Minister for Asia and the Pacific called on 28 April for the Burmese military to show restraint and to protect civilians in Kachin following the recent surge in fighting between the military and the Kachin Independence Army.</p> more like this
