answer text <p>​Public reports suggest that from June 2017 until 4 June 2018, 6 Israelis, 2 of them soldiers, and over 190 Palestinians have been killed.</p><p>The British Government does not compile an independent assessment of whether those killed could be classified as civilians or militants. We call on the relevant authorities to ensure that any incident involving loss of life is investigated thoroughly and transparently.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Foreign Secretary discussed the use of live ammunition against protestors in Gaza with Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority President Abbas on 16 May. I have also raised concerns regarding this issue with my Israeli counterpart on 13 May and with the Israeli ambassador to the UK on 17 May. answer text <p>Hamas have acknowledged that 50 of those killed during protests in Gaza on Monday were their operatives. Hamas leaders have also called for violence against Israelis. While many protests have been peaceful, there has been reporting of some protestors using violent methods during the protests, and there have been multiple attempts to place Improvised Explosive Devices at the Gaza border. The UK supports the fundamental right of Palestinians to peaceful protests, but it is clear that extremist elements have been exploiting these protests for their own ends; Israel has the right to protect itself against Hamas and other militant groups.</p> more like this

answer text <p>I [Mr Field] met Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Marapana on 18 April in the margins of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. We discussed the progress made by Sri Lanka against its international commitments, and I set out the British Government's view that there is much remaining to be done, and we have been disappointed by the pace of change.</p><p>The UK led a strong joint statement at the March 2018 UN Human Rights Council, calling on the Government of Sri Lanka to redouble its efforts to deliver the commitments it made to the Council in 2015 and 2017. answer text <p>There is limited progress on human rights in Sri Lanka. In March, the UK made its assessment of Sri Lanka's progress in the implementation of UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) Resolution 30/1. While acknowledging positive steps taken, the statement described the slow pace of progress towards establishing transitional justice mechanisms as a disappointment, including delays in introducing new human rights compliant counter-terrorism legislation. Sri Lanka remains a Human Rights Priority Country for the British Government.</p><p>The Government of Sri Lanka called a State of Emergency in response to attacks on Muslim communities in February 2018. We have encouraged the authorities to ensure that those responsible are investigated and held accountable.</p> more like this

My officials met Mr Gao Zhisheng's daughter, Grace Gao, and representatives of a UK NGO in October 2017 to discuss his case.</p><p>Gao Zhisheng was featured in a case list that we delivered to the Chinese Government ahead of the UK/China Human Rights Dialogue in June 2017.
