answer text
We regularly raise human rights concerns with the Lao government, including adherence to their international human rights commitments which protect freedom of religion and belief. We are aware of several cases of Christians being arrested for worshipping, including the case of Pastor Sompong Supatto. Laos is currently undergoing its UN Universal Periodic Review, a UN Human Rights Council led review of its human rights record. We submitted an advance question to the Review on freedom of religion. The annual EU-Laos Human Rights Dialogue is scheduled for October, and we expect freedom of religion and individual cases to be raised. We will continue to work with the EU and other like-minded partners to raise our concerns about religious freedom with the Lao government.
more like this

answer text
The UK fully supports the statements made by the United Nations Secretary-General and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights which strongly condemned the recent killing of civilians by the terrorist group Boko Haram in Baga, Nigeria. Boko Haram continues to wreak havoc across North East Nigeria, causing suffering in communities of different faiths and ethnicities. As I set out in my answer to the Honourable Member for Brent Central (Sarah Teather)'s Urgent Question on 12 January (Hansard Column 601), the UK has taken an active role in leading international support to Nigeria in its fight against Boko Haram, alongside other international partners, including the UN. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond) also discussed the situation with Secretary Kerry on 15 January 2015.
more like this

answer text We advise British Nationals to consult the Foreign and Commonwealth (FCO) Travel Advice before travelling to Egypt, which provides the latest information on the bird flu virus in Egypt. It currently states that cases of bird flu in Egypt are mostly in rural areas, that the risk to humans from Avian Influenza is believed to be very low, that live animal markets, poultry farms and other close contact with domestic, caged or wild birds should be avoided, and that poultry and egg dishes should be thoroughly cooked. We keep our Travel Advice under continuous review based on robust and up-to-date information and analysis from our experts in-country and we will make further updates to our Travel Advice as necessary. more like this

answer text
I was shocked by this brutal killing. I raised this issue with the Pakistani High Commissioner on 28 October. The Minister of State, my noble Friend the right hon. Baroness Anelay of St Johns, issued a statement condemning this act. It is essential the authorities investigate these atrocious murders and bring to justice those responsible. We regularly raise the misuse of the blasphemy laws with the government of Pakistan and will continue to do so.
more like this

answer text
The UK strongly supports the co-ordinated response by the African Union and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) aimed at bringing the crisis in Burkina Faso to a swift and peaceful resolution. We call on the interim authorities to work peacefully with all parties to bring about a return to civilian democratic governance as soon as possible. The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my hon. Friend the Member for Rochford and Southend East (James Duddridge) discussed the situation in Burkina Faso with Smail Chergui, the African Union Peace and Security Commissioner on 14 October. We will continue to engage with the African Union and ECOWAS regularly as the situation evolves.

more like this
