answer text
The UK co-sponsored resolutions on Burma in both the UN General Assembly (November 2017) and UN Human Rights Council (December 2017). Both resolutions raised serious concerns about the situation in Rakhine and called for the safe, voluntary and dignified return of the displaced Rohingya. They also set out support for early implementation of the Rakhine Advisory Recommendations, including on citizenship.

The UN Security Council, in response to a UK led call, convened a further session on 13 February to discuss the Rohingya crisis. We will work to ensure the UN Security Council remains focused on the Rohingya crisis and will consider how best to use the various tools, including resolutions, at the Council’s disposal.
more like this

All sides need to abide by their Minsk II Agreement commitments and we are concerned by Russian statements attempting to distance themselves from their very clear obligations.
more like this

answer text
The UK is aware of reports alleging the detention and mistreatment of Sudanese nationals returning to Sudan from Belgium. In December 2017, shortly following these reports, the Belgian Commissioner-General for Refugees and Stateless Persons launched an inquiry regarding the risk in cases of return to Sudan. This inquiry has now completed its investigation, but has not been able conclusively to verify whether or not the allegations were accurate. It is vital that all individuals returning to Sudan are treated in accordance with international standards.
more like this

answer text
The primary barrier to the flow of arms to al Shabaab in Somalia is the UN Security Council (UNSC) arms embargo imposed with Resolution 733 in 1992. As a permanent member of the Security Council, the UK fully supports this embargo.

The partial suspension of the arms embargo in Resolution 2317 (2016) was designed to allow the Federal Government to obtain the equipment needed to develop the Somali national security forces, which are critical for Somalia's long-term security. Safeguards exist within the framework of the suspension. These include restrictions on heavy weaponry, monitoring mechanisms, and requirements to notify and report to the UN. The Monitoring Group's mandate was also extended, to 15 December 2018, in UNSC Resolution 2385 (2017). Individuals who abuse the suspension may also be listed under the sanctions regime.
more like this
