We welcome the recent release of the documentary The Profiteers, which will help to raise the international profile of this important issue. The British Government continues to work closely with regional partners, including Kenya and Uganda, international financial institutions, and other British Government departments to address the illicit financial flows fuelling the conflict in South Sudan, and to clamp down on corruption and money laundering. We continue to make clear to the Government of Sudan our expectation that all detainees are treated in accordance with international standards. Sudan remains a Human Rights Priority Country for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and we discussed freedom of religion or belief at the sixth round of the UK-Sudan Strategic Dialogue on 7 November. I visited Sudan in September, and the Minister for the Commonwealth and UN visited in October. Where we have been made aware of allegations we raise them in accordance with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's guidance on reporting such allegations.</p><p>We continue to encourage anybody with concerns about treatment in detention to report them to the appropriate oversight body. I also reiterated the UK's call for Bahrain to protect freedom of expression for all its citizens, in line with international obligations.</p><p>The British Embassy in Bahrain has closely monitored the trials of Mr Rajab. Officials from the Embassy regularly attend Mr Rajab's court hearings, including the handing down of the latest appeal verdict. We have raised the case at senior levels as part of the UK's ongoing open dialogue with Bahrain. I am aware that there is now an opportunity for Mr Rajab's legal team to apply for an appeal through the judicial system. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/07/2018 answer text <p>The Sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering Act provides the power for the UK to impose sanctions regimes after the UK has left the EU, including against individuals involved in gross human rights abuses via the so-called Magnitsky clauses.</p><p>The UK is committed to promoting peace and strengthening human rights in South Sudan, and to holding to account those responsible for the worst violations. The UK currently has a range of powers that we use to sanction individuals flowing from the European Communities Act. This includes the power to sanction individuals for human rights abuses, which we deploy regularly to protect national security. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/07/2018 answer text <p>Through sustained bilateral engagement by myself and senior officials across the region, the British Government is urging InterGovernmental Authority on Deveoplment (IGAD) member states and African Union leaders to take action against those who have violated the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.</p><p>We welcome the renewed commitment by the parties in the Khartoum Declaration to a permanent ceasefire. Both the region and the parties to the conflict must ensure that the agreement is implemented in full and without delay, and that it is robustly and independently monitored. However, the new ceasefire does not negate the need to respond to the continued and repeated violations of the December 2017 Cessation of Hostilities Agreement. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 08/06/2018 answer text <p>The Khartoum Process has made good progress to address people smuggling and human trafficking in the Horn of Africa. The UK chaired two thematic meetings in 2016 and 2017 and Egypt hosted a trilateral meeting (Khartoum/Rabat Processes and Horn of Africa Initiative) in November 2017 to understand: progress to date; ongoing challenges; and the solutions needed for a joined-up and concerted response. The Khartoum Process has approved 147 programmes under its Better Migration Management programme and it also continues to implement the Regional Operation Centre of Khartoum which aims to improve cooperation and information sharing between law enforcement agencies to disrupt the people smuggling and trafficking rings exploiting migrants. The 2018 Italian Chairmanship is building upon these efforts with further thematic and training workshops alongside a review of thematic conclusions to ensure tangible future delivery.
