We have raised our concerns regarding protection of cultural property with the Saudi Arabian government and have received assurances. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 18/09/2015 answer text <p>The Government of Yemen and the Saudi Arabian-led Coalition have made military gains in recent weeks against the Houthis and forces loyal to former President Saleh. We hope this will help build a base for the future return of the legitimate Yemeni Government. A political solution is the best way to achieve long-term stability in Yemen, and we remain fully and actively supportive of the UN’s efforts to bring an end to the conflict and resumption of an inclusive political process. The humanitarian situation remains dire, with 80 per cent of the population in need of assistance. The Department for International Development has allocated £55 million, through UN agencies and humanitarian Non-Governmental Organisations, to support Yemenis affected by the crisis. The risk of terrorist groups, such as al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and ISIL-Yemen, exploiting the instability is also a major concern. I spoke to President Hadi of Yemen on 3 June and UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on 6 June ahead of consultations in Geneva on 16-18 June. The Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, my right hon. Friend the Member for Runnymede and Weybridge (Mr Hammond), spoke to Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Al Jubeir on 23 June to discuss the humanitarian situation. Our Yemen Office in Jeddah and British Embassy in Riyadh are in regular contact with Yemeni and Saudi interlocutors to discuss the political and humanitarian situation and how the UK can best support moving towards a durable process for stability in the country. We remain fully supportive of the UN’s efforts to broker negotiations between Yemeni parties and call on parties to engage in good faith in this process.</p><p>The situation on the ground remains unstable and the humanitarian situation is dire. Our travel advice has included information on the current situation in Yemen, as well as of the support that can be provided in neighbouring countries. We continue to work with international partners to resolve the current crisis in Yemen and bring political stability to the country. We continue to believe that an inclusive political process is the best way to achieve long-term stability, avoid civil war, economic collapse and a humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen. We work through the UN, Friends of Yemen and other international organisations to support the political transition. The UK contributes core funding to the Office of Jamal Benomar, the UN Special Advisor to the Secretary General, who is leading the political negotiations.
