We call for his immediate release and for the legitimate demands of Sudanese people to be respected. Violence must not be used, including against opponents.</p><p>The UK continues to engage with a range of opposition, members of the protest movement as well as the Transitional Military Council (TMC). The UK, alongside Troika partners Norway and the US, has called for all sides to engage in an inclusive dialogue that leads to a swift, orderly and peaceful transition to civilian rule. On 4 June in a joint Troika statement, we condemned the recent violent attacks by Sudanese security forces against peaceful protestors in Sudan which left many civilians dead or injured. We also expressed serious concern over TMC's announcement that it would cease negotiations and called for an agreed transfer of power to a civilian-led government.</p><p>On 6 June, the Minister for Africa summoned the Sudanese Ambassador to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to express our grave concerns at the use of violence against civilians by the Sudanese authorities. The UK has called for the human rights of all Sudanese people to be respected, and for the resumption of the political process leading to an agreed peaceful transfer of power to a civilian-led government, as demanded by the Sudanese people. As part of these interactions the British Ambassador to Khartoum met the Deputy Head of the Transitional Military Committee, Mohamed Hamdan Dagolo (&quot;Hametti&quot;), on April 15 2019 to call for: 1) steps to improve the situation in Sudan; 2) a swift move to a civilian transitional government; and 3) the release of all political detainees. The Ambassador also expressed concerns at the past role of the Rapid Support Forces. We have been consistent in public and in private that there must be accountability for the crimes committed by members of the former regime. Since Bashir's removal on 11 April, the UK has made clear public statements calling for all sides to engage in an inclusive dialogue that leads to a swift and peaceful transition to civilian rule. The UK has called for a transition to a political system that is inclusive, supported by a sound constitutional basis that is respectful of human rights and the rule of law and that ensures accountability for the crimes committed by members of the former regime. The UK strongly supports the mission of the International Criminal Court; due legal process must be followed. The Minister for Africa most recently raised our concerns with the Foreign Minister of Sudan on 13 March. Our Ambassador in Khartoum has raised the cases of individuals detained with senior officials in the Government of Sudan. This included expressing outrage at the case of nine women sentenced to flogging and a call for their immediate release; we are pleased that these sentences have now been overturned. In addition, the Sudanese Ambassador was summoned to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on 7 March, during which we registered our deep concern at the situation and the impact this could have on our approach to engagement. The EU's capacity building activity under the Khartoum Process is restricted to supporting the police to tackle organised immigration crime and delivered via a Horn of Africa EU Trust Fund to which the UK contributes. We most recently made statements expressing these concerns on 26 February with US, Norway and Canada, and on 28 February alongside our EU partners. In addition the Sudanese ambassador was summoned to the Foreign Office on 7 March to register the depth of our ongoing concern. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/02/2019 answer text <p>When she met the Sudanese Foreign Minister on 22 January, the Minister for Africa communicated the UK's concerns about the Sudanese government's response to recent protests, emphasising the importance of the rule of law and human rights. The Sudanese Foreign Minister registered the depth of these concerns and set out his assessment of the economic challenges that had initiated them. We have continued to raise human rights, including freedom of religion or belief, regularly with the Government of Sudan at all levels. I visited Sudan in September 2018 and raised religious freedoms with senior members of the government, as well hearing directly from a number of religious leaders. I also raised the need for action to address these issues with the Sudanese delegation in the margins of the biannual UK–Sudan strategic dialogue in November 2018. Reports indicate that the Police and National Intelligence Security Service have been leading the Sudan Government response; we do not yet know the extent or role of the Sudanese Armed Forces but are monitoring closely.
