answer text <p>Egypt is a Foreign and Commonwealth Office Human Rights Priority Country and the UK continues to urge the Egyptian Government to ensure full implementation of the rights and freedoms set out in Egypt's Constitution. We regularly raise concerns about human rights with the Egyptian Government both in public and in private including at Ministerial level. answer text <p>​It remains a long-standing policy of the United Kingdom to oppose the death penalty in all circumstances as a matter of principle. We have regularly made our position clear to the Egyptian Government.</p><p>We are also deeply concerned about reports of enforced disappearance, torture and mistreatment in detention in Egypt and continue to raise these issues with the Egyptian authorities. We have raised these concerns in public, through the UN Human Rights Council, through the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's Human Rights Priority Country reports, and in private with Egyptian Government representatives in London and in Cairo.</p> more like this

answer text <p>​We are aware of reports of the detention of large numbers of human rights activists in Egypt, although there are no reliable statistics. Egypt is a Foreign and Commonwealth Office Human Rights Priority Country and the UK regularly raises concerns about human rights with the Egyptian Government, both in public and in private. On 18 September we issued a statement at the UN Human Rights Council in which we raised specific concerns about the arrests of activists. Our Ambassador to Cairo also raised our human rights concerns with the Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for Human Rights on 21 February.</p> more like this

We are tracking the cases in question and welcome the release of Abdel Khalik Farouk and Ibrahim el-Khateib on 29 October pending investigation.</p> more like this
