Following implementation of the Iran nuclear deal (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) in January 2016, international sanctions on Iran's oil trade were lifted or suspended and oil exports increased. The US's re-imposition, in November 2018, of secondary sanctions against Iran's oil trade has led to a reduction in oil exports from Iran.
