answer text
The UK has consistently called for free and fair elections in Zimbabwe, in line with the country’s constitution, and has engaged regularly with actors from across the political spectrum to discuss how the international community can best support Zimbabwe’s democratisation process. We have announced a further £5 million of assistance to civil society to help them deliver free and fair elections. We welcome the announcement that an EU Electoral Observation Mission will be deployed to Zimbabwe to monitor the electoral process.
more like this

answer text
We are aware that rural inter-communal clashes have led to violent deaths by groups with increasing access to sophisticated equipment. We continue to encourage the Government of Nigeria to work with security agencies in a compliant manner to resolve the ongoing issue and welcome President Buhari's condemnation of these acts of violence. We are engaging with Federal and State Government to express concern and encourage them to work with all parties to develop solutions that meet the needs of all affected communities to prevent further violence.
more like this

answer text
We believe that the rights of individuals to express opinions and peacefully challenge authority are essential to a free and open society. Freedom of expression is essential to exercising human rights. When freedom of expression is under threat or restricted, human rights in general are challenged or diminished. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will raise issues of concern regarding the legislation with the Nigerian authorities as part of our ongoing human rights dialogue.
more like this

answer text
Regardless of broader international support, a UN arms embargo would require majority support in the Security Council and the absence of a veto from any Permanent members. It is our assessment that there is insufficient support amongst Council members at this time but this is an issue under constant review. We have therefore concentrated on renewing and expanding the existing EU arms embargo.
more like this

answer text
The UK was instrumental in renewing and expanding the EU arms embargo on Burma. This was adopted formerly on 26 April via written procedure. We do not support the introduction of financial sanctions (beyond asset freezes on individual military figures) at this stage. On balance the FCO believes targeting companies or sectors, and disrupting Burma's financial system, could harm economic development across Burma and impact worst the most vulnerable.
more like this
