answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/07/2015 answer text <p>The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) currently pays the following annual rent on:-</p><p>(a) 1 Carlton Gardens – £482,341 <br>(b) Lancaster House - £720,000<br> <br>Lancaster House is used to provide business hospitality services as well as conference and meeting facilities across the whole of government. It is also used for a limited amount of commercial hire to corporate clients to help off-set running costs.</p><p>1 Carlton Gardens is the official residence of the Foreign Secretary, and is used for official events and functions in support of FCO and wider government objectives.</p><p>We reviewed the Lancaster House and Carlton Gardens rent in 2013. Following negotiation, the agreed rent in both cases was less than the landlord had proposed. In 2015 we successfully obtained a reduction in the rateable value for Lancaster House. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 20/07/2015 answer text <p>In 2014 there were 67 pirate attacks reported in the Gulf of Guinea and 170 seafarers held hostage. The International Maritime Bureau estimates, however, that up to 60% of attacks go unreported. There are variations each year, but the situation has remained broadly constant for the last 5 years.</p><p>The UK engages multilaterally and bilaterally to assist west and central African states develop their maritime strategies and improve their ability to secure their territorial waters, including through implementation of the Yaoundé Code of Conduct regional cooperation agreement.
