We also thank the departing representative, Mr Todd Howland, for his leadership of the UN Office for Human Rights in Colombia since 2012. The office has played a vital role in supporting those working to improve human rights in Colombia. In December 2017, I was pleased to announce a package of support for Colombia’s peace process that included £400k in financial support for the UN Office for Human Rights.
more like this

We continue to urge all sides to pursue a resolution through dialogue and to avoid violence. The Government condemns attacks and threats against journalists, peaceful protesters and human rights defenders.

Following confirmation on 5 January by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal of the re-election of Juan Orlando Hernandez, the British Ambassador to Honduras issued a statement calling on the authorities to protect human rights and work to restore confidence in national institutions. We support the conclusions of the EU Election Observer Mission, and encorage the Government of Honduras to implement recommended reforms to the electoral system in advance of future elections.
more like this

answer text
We remain deeply concerned by and condemn all restrictions placed on freedom of religion or belief in China, including on practitioners of Falun Gong. At the UK/China Human Rights dialogue on 27 June 2017 we discussed our concerns about restrictions placed on Falun Gong practitioners with the Chinese authorities. Furthermore, at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva in June 2017, the UK's statement highlighted our concerns about restrictions placed on religious freedoms in China.

The UK is concerned by any allegations that involuntary organ removal is taking place in China, and suggestions that minority and religious groups are being specifically targeted. However, it is our analysis that the evidence available to us, at this time, does not substantiate claims of systemic organ harvesting in China. We have raised this issue directly with the Chinese authorities and my officials continue to scrutinise new evidence on this issue.
more like this

answer text
The Government is deeply concerned by Iran’s destabilising involvement in regional conflicts, including in Syria and Yemen, through the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and IRGC Qods Force, and by reported financial and military support to militant and proscribed groups, such as Hizballah, Hamas and Palestinian rejectionist groups, and the Houthis in Yemen. We are also seriously concerned by Iran’s ballistic missile programme. I raised these concerns directly during my visit to Iran in August 2017, as did the Foreign Secretary in December 2017. I also raised the UK’s serious concerns about the human rights situation in Iran. The September 2017 report of the UN Special Rapporteur for Human Rights in Iran sets out the role of the IRGC in human rights violations in Iran – in particular in the harassment and detention of minority groups. The UK has shown its leadership in co-sponsoring the UN General Assembly’s Resolution on the Human Rights Situation in Iran in November 2017. The IRGC as a whole remains subject to EU and US sanctions; a large number of associated individuals and entities are also designated. We continue to review the list of proscribed groups, but do not routinely comment on consideration of specific organisations.

answer text
Sudan is a Human Rights Priority Country for the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, and we remain concerned about the human rights situation in Sudan. We used the fourth round of the UK-Sudan Strategic Dialogue to agree steps that the Government of Sudan would take to further progress on human rights issues, and to raise again our concerns.

We welcomed the recent release and pardoning of six human rights activists, including Dr Mudawi Ibrahim Adam, an issue on which we actively lobbied the Government of Sudan. However, a number of human rights challenges remain. The UK will continue to be a strong advocate of the work that human rights defenders do in Sudan. Our Embassy in Khartoum maintains a regular dialogue with the Government of Sudan on human rights issues, and we will continue to lobby them on individual cases of particular concern.
more like this

The Government of Mauritius repeatedly makes the claim both in public and private that the Chagos Archipelago is part of Mauritius. Most recently Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth made this point during his speech at the UN General Assembly in September.
