Friend the Member for Maidenhead (Mrs May)'s visit to the United States of America (26-27 January) was an opportunity to discuss a range of shared priorities and challenges, including the fight against Daesh. We will continue to work closely with the USA as part of the Global Coalition against Daesh, where the UK plays a leading role through airstrikes in Iraq and Syria, training the Iraqi Security Forces, cutting off Daesh’s finances and countering their poisonous narrative.</p><p>We have an extremely strong defence relationship with the US and look forward to continuing to work together to ensure our security and prosperity.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Under the HMG Security Policy Framework all government departments are required to ensure that their staff have the appropriate level of security clearance for the work they are doing. The FCO is working closely with the Department for Exiting the European Union, which leads on our withdrawal negotiations with the EU. Both departments have ensured that all relevant staff are properly security-vetted. Both departments have reminded their staff of the need to deal with all sensitive information on restricted channels of distribution, and at the appropriate levels of security.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We can confirm that President Obama has accepted an invitation to have a private lunch with Her Majesty The Queen, and that he will also meet the Prime Minister, my Rt Hon. Friend the Member for Witney (Mr Cameron), when he visits the UK in April. This will be President Obama’s fifth official visit to the UK. The US remains our most important bilateral ally. It is entirely in keeping with the nature of the Special Relationship that President Obama would wish to visit the UK in the final year of his Presidency, as did President George W Bush in 2008.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The British Government is opposed to the death penalty in all circumstances and calls on all states to adopt a moratorium on the use of the death penalty in accordance with UN General Assembly resolution 186 adopted in December 2014. This is part of the process towards complete abolition. The UK’s own experience showed that the death penalty did not deter crime, and miscarriages of justice were irreversible and irreparable. Where we judge that an execution is incompatible with international law or marks a backward step, we raise our concerns privately and publicly.</p><p> </p> more like this
