I also met Yemen's Foreign Minister, al-Yamani, at the Summit.</p><p>The UK is playing a leading role in efforts to promote peace and implement the confidence building measures agreed in Stockholm in December. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/12/2018 answer text <p>The Prime Minister most recently wrote to President Sirisena ahead of the Commonwealth Summit earlier this year, on issues including human rights and community relations in Sri Lanka.</p><p>I issued statements on 26 and 29 October, and on 9 November, setting out our concerns at recent political developments in Sri Lanka and calling for due political process to be upheld. It is vital that all sides refrain from violence and make efforts to resolve the situation peacefully and as soon as possible. Our High Commissioner to Sri Lanka continues to meet regularly with all political parties, and has expressed our concern at the behaviour of some MPs in disrupting Parliamentary proceedings. We have stressed the importance of MPs allowing Parliament to do its job.</p><p>I last visited Sri Lanka in October, before the current crisis, where I met Foreign Minister Marapana and other Ministers. We discussed the range of our bilateral interests and I urged more progress on human rights and reconciliation. I also met the leader of the Tamil National Alliance, as well as human rights and civil society activists. I have continued to urge the Sri Lankan government to fully implement its commitments to the UN Human Rights Council. I plan to visit Sri Lanka in 2019.</p><p>I have received regular representations from the Tamil community on a range of their interests and concerns. I last met with the APPG for Tamil's including some representatives from the Tamil community on 3 December to discuss the current political situation. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/11/2018 answer text <p>​We have not recently discussed the status of Tamil people in Sri Lanka with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth. However, we welcomed her visit to Colombo in August, during which she offered Commonwealth support on good governance and accountability.</p><p>The UK is committed to supporting human rights and reconciliation for all Sri Lankans. While we welcome some recent progress against its UN Human Rights Council commitments, more remains to be done. I visited Colombo in October where I urged the government to make more progress, including towards the establishment of transitional justice and accountability mechanisms; devolution through constitutional reform; and the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act. I also met Tamil National Alliance leader and human rights and civil society activists. In August we announced £1 million of extra UK funding to support resettlement of war-displaced families in the predominantly Tamil north and east. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 19/07/2018 answer text <p>We remain deeply concerned by the findings of the UN Panel of Experts on Yemen that missiles, and related military equipment of Iranian origin, were introduced into Yemen after the imposition of the targeted arms embargo. As the Panel concluded, this puts Iran in non-compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015) and reaffirms our concerns about destabilising Iranian activity in Yemen and the wider region. We call on Iran to cease such activity, which risks escalating the conflict, and to support a political solution to the conflict in Yemen.</p><p>The UK is providing £1.3 million to help the UN's Verification and Inspection Mechanism (UNVIM) to facilitate commercial imports into Hodeidah and Saleef ports by giving the Coalition confidence that weapons are not coming in on commercial ships. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/10/2017 answer text <p>There are a number of measures in place to prevent the flow of arms into Yemen in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2216, including the UN Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (UNVIM) which the UK fully supports. In line with the UK-sponsored UN Security Council Presidential Statement, agreed on 15 June, the Government is engaged in efforts to increase commercial and humanitarian shipments through Yemeni ports and airports. We are discussing short-term options to improve port infrastructure in Al Hudaydah and other ports with regional countries, the US and the UN, including cranes, inspection and improving commercial access. We are also monitoring port capacity across the country. We continue to push for increased access to Sana’a Airport for lifesaving humanitarian supplies and movement of urgent humanitarian cases.
