answer text <p>The Foreign and Commonwealth Office compiles Full Time Equivalent (FTE) staff statistics for inclusion in the Department’s annual sustainability reporting. The total number of FTEs occupying the King Charles Street building in 2013-14 was 2,172, (excluding Facilities Management, Catering, Security and Nursery contract staff). For 2010-11 the equivalent total was 1,741.The increase in the number of staff in King Charles Street between 2010-11 and 2013-14 relates to staff relocations from the Old Admiralty Building. 2004-5 occupancy statistics are unavailable and could not now be compiled except at disproportionate cost.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Our Ambassador and his team in Bahrain, and FCO officials in the UK, regularly meet with Bahraini civil society and NGOs to seek the widest views possible. Our engagement is constructive and focused on supporting political and human rights reform. In June, my predecessor, Rt Hon Sir Hugh Robertson MP KCMG, visited Bahrain and met a wide range of representatives including human rights defenders and civil society groups to hear their views on the political and human rights situation.</p><p>We commend the steps taken by the Bahraini government to implement the recommendations set out in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry. As outlined in our recent human rights case study on Bahrain, progress has been made in a number of areas but there is still more to be done.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Our Ambassador and his team regularly discuss human rights, including allegations of torture and mistreatment, with the Government of Bahrain at the highest levels. The British Government consistently and unreservedly condemns torture and cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, and it is a priority for us to combat it wherever and whenever it occurs. As well as raising our concerns with the Government of Bahrain, the UK continues to work with the Bahraini authorities to share best practice on torture prevention measures and address allegations of torture and mistreatment.</p><p>We commend the steps taken by the Bahraini Government to implement the recommendations set out in the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry. answer text <p>Uzbekistan remains a Country of Concern in our latest Annual Human Rights Report. We regularly raise our concerns directly with the Uzbek authorities, through our Embassy in Tashkent and at Ministerial level, most recently during Baroness Warsi’s visit to Tashkent as Senior Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in meetings with Uzbek Ministerial counterparts in April this year. We also encourage further progress towards full implementation of Uzbekistan’s international human rights commitments, both bilaterally and with our international partners.</p><p>In addition to raising concerns, our Embassy in Tashkent funds projects that support good governance and human rights.</p> more like this
